It contains over 300 colour illustrations, including diagnostic specimens of common and uncommon conditions, and examples of cytological problems. The majority of the illustrations are of Panpanicolaou-stained material, although other special stains are demonstrated. Each chapter starts with a general introduction citing the principal and most recent literature, and each illustration has a detailed caption.
