In this volume, leading scientists and clinicians assess the current status of cerebral blood flow measurement with stable Xenon-enhanced computed tomography (Xe/CT). The contributors explain the theory and methodology of this new blood flow measurement technique, discuss key aspects of data analysis, present normative cerebral blood flow values, and examine the applications of Xe/CT in specific neurological, neurosurgical, and critical care situations. Where appropriate, Xe/CT measurements are compared and correlated with results of angiography, electroencephalography, and other diagnostic studies. Close attention is also given to potential complications and risks of XE/CT and to problems arising from the effect of Xenon inhalation on cerebral blood flow velocity and electroencephalography.
