This atlas provides a synopsis of patient assessment and treatment of elderly patients. It deals with the demographic changes that have made this patient group increasingly important, describing the medical considerations to be addressed and modifications to specific types of treatment, and it contains step-by-step guides to all the procedures commonly employed in dental care of the elderly. This book attempts to identify the population changes relating to elderly people, and to describe their characteristics. Successive chapters indicate how conventional views of "adult" dentistry must be modified to management of the older person. In some aspects, and for some patients, it is necessary to revise downwards the objectives. For others, alternative techniques may provide scope for treatment results which are at least as successful as would be expected for younger patients.
