This book traces the growth of democracy in Taiwan, from the government's 1986 decision to allow greater freedom for opposition parties to the present day. The author draws on interviews with more than 20 prominent political figures, as well as detailed economic and electoral data, to sketch a finely detailed portrait of the development of democratic structures on the island.
