Resource assessment of non-wood forest products

This publication highlights the importance of accurate resource assessments of non-wood forest products (NWFPs). Although there is no commonly accepted definition of this term as yet, NWFPs refer to products, benefits or services of biological origin other than wood derived from forests, other wooded land and trees outside forests. The publication is intended as reference material for practitioners considering NWFP inventory, and it presents guidance on the design and selection of appropriate methods for quantifying resources. It will be of most interest to those with some previous knowledge of the basics of inventory. It includes a CD-ROM containing a database of protocols used in a large number of qualitative studies. This can be used as a resource to identify examples of good practice.
