Improving Transfusion for Pediatric Patients

This publication addresses the various aspects of transfusion therapy as specifically related to the paediatric patient population. It discusses pathophysiology and treatment of neonatal anaemias, the transfusion management of the paediatric surgical patient and the transfusion support of the paediatric surgical patient with acquired or congenital bone marrow hypoplasia, the use and availability of paediatric transfusion apparatus, indications for transfusion, selection and dose calculation of blood products appropriate for the neonatal and paediatric patient, strategies to minimize exposure to homologous blood and possible alternatives to transfusion.
