His doctoral dissertation at Columbia University was on the work of Joris Ivens, and he has contributed extensively to Jump Cut, Cineaste, Cinema Canada, and The Body Politic. His current book in progress is Hard to Imagine: Gay Male Eroticism in Film and Photography, 1850-1969.
