Michel Grillet

"Across the Universe," durch das Weltall, wandelt Michel Grillet in seiner ersten retrospektiven Überblicksausstellung in einem Museum. Seit jeher interessiert sich der Genfer Künstler für unendliche Sphären: Vielfach tauchen diffuse, weite Horizonte oder Sternenhimmel in seinen Arbeiten auf. Besondere Beachtung verdient dabei das Format: Bekannt geworden ist Grillet mit miniaturartigen Bildern. In Aquarell-Farbtöpfchen hat er Nachteindrücke oder Bergansichten gemalt und dabei nicht nur technische Brillanz auf kleinstem Raum bewiesen. Vielmehr hat er auch gezeigt, dass sich das Weite mit dem Kleinen kraftvoll verbinden lässt und Monumentalität keine Frage der Größe ist. Gefühle der Sehnsucht oder Erhabenheit bestimmen Grillets Bildwelt, die damit an die Romantik anknüpft. In gewisser Weise führt er auch die Tradition der Genfer Malerei fort. In der minutiösen Ausführung spiegeln seine Werke die dortige Miniaturmalerei des 18. Jahrhunderts oder die Landschaften von Alexandre Perrier. Die Publikation versammelt wie die Ausstellung in Solothurn Aquarelle und Malerei der Jahre 1977 bis 2019.
 
"Across the Universe," Michel Grillet walks through space in his first retrospective overview exhibition in a museum. The artist from Geneva has always been interested in infinite spheres: Diffuse, wide horizons or starry skies often appear in his works. The format deserves special attention: Grillet has become known with miniature-like pictures. He painted night impressions or mountain views in watercolor pots and not only demonstrated technical brilliance in the smallest space. Rather, he also showed that the expanse can be powerfully combined with the small and that monumentality is not a question of size. Feelings of longing or grandeur determine Grillet's imagery, which ties in with romanticism. In a way, he continues the tradition of Geneva painting. In the meticulous execution, his works reflect the 18th century miniature painting or the landscapes of Alexandre Perrier. Like the exhibition in Solothurn, the publication brings together watercolors and paintings from 1977 to 2019.
