A revised, updated and expanded edition of this well-established text which seeks to place its coverage of pharmacology and drug usage and effects in the context of nurses' day-to-day work. Nursing points are highlighted in each chapter and it emphasizes the role of the nurse in drug administration and details the drug information which affects nursing care. Various changes have been made since the last edition. The chapter on heavy metals has been discarded as the therapeutic use of these substances has almost disappeared. The sections on muscle relaxants and local anaesthetics have been moved, and oxygen and carbon dioxide have been combined and appear with the chapter on anaesthetic drugs, as the editors believe that they are relevant to the areas of anaesthetics and intensive care. The section on drugs and the eye has been promoted to a chapter, as its content extends beyond the local application of drugs.
