Pat Head Summitt didn't invent basketball, but no other person has done more to elevate women's basketball into the national consciousness as she did. For thirty-eight years, starting at age twenty-two, she coached the University of Tennessee Lady Vols to almost unimaginable heights, winning eight national championships and 1,098 games.
