Zombies continue to morbidly fascinate, through books, film and also TV. Major current film releases such as World War Z and television series such as 'The Walking Dead' and 'In The Flesh' are evidence of the public's insatiable hunger to watch, from the comfort of their sofas, these lurching, shuffling, horrifying flesh eaters. This exciting new book wittily takes the reader through the rise of the zombie, from its vampire-like beginnings in early literature, through the birth of Romero's walking dead in Night of the Living Dead to its comical portrayal in 'zomcoms' (think Shaun of the Dead). As you read, enjoy an eye-grabbing selection of artworks portraying the modern zombie in all its post-apocalyptic doom and dread.

Russ Thorne (author) hopes he'll be well prepared if the zombie apocalypse arrives tomorrow. A university career partially spent studying English but mainly watching Italian zombie video nasties late at night with his housemates should help, along with years of dedicated Romero viewing and getting red on himself. He's been known to dress up as the living dead on occasion too, sometimes even on purpose. When not stacking tins and bottled water in the basement he writes for the national press (including The Independent and I) and has previously written books on tattoo art, vampires and warriors. He lives in York, where there has been a known zombie problem for years, with his wife and dog - who are not known to be part of it.
