This handbook is aimed at general practitioners and vet students who need to know how to sedate and anaesthetize horses safely. It will not try to be a comprehensive treatise on the subject but rather a handy reference manual for the practitioner or student, in easy-to-use small format. Subjects covered include Pharmacology of induction and anaesthetic agents, Monitoring during anaesthesia, Common anaesthetic problems and Anaesthesia in special situations (e.g. anaesthesia in foals, in pregnant mares, for caesarian section, etc). Both hospital and field anaesthesia will be covered, and safety will be a prime consideration. Further reading (review articles and key major references) will be provided at the end of each chapter. Although both authors are British, the book will address anaesthetic practices in Europe and the USA, so the book should be successful in all territories.
