The author spent many years working on development projects with the Food and Agriculture Organization and other organizations and in advising governments on aquaculture potential and development. During this work he became aware that there was no elementary text to guide those who were new to fish farming or becoming involved in the farming of a different species. He therefore set to work to compile this book, which is based on his experience in many parts of the world. His aim is the practical one of giving fundamental information in an easily understood form.
