Born in Sarajevo during WWII, Susko is a witness and survivor of the Bosnian War and was badly wounded while giving interviews to journalists in 1992. Susko has published 66 books which are mostly his translations into Croatian. He has translated 20th-century African American Poetry, fiction by Donald Barthelme, Saul Bellow, Bernard Malamud, John Hawkes, James Baldwin and many others.
