In this book Steve the geologist and Lida the stone carver and letter cutter look at working with a material in common: ancient rock. A timescale of billions of years in the past is juxtaposed with hundreds or thousands of years in the future.
Through dialogue they explore the properties and qualities of several categories of British rocks and stones, looking at their colouration, density, and response to the chisel. Working alongside their teams, both share a belief in protecting our precious planet. Their combined reflections will enlighten and inspire anyone considering a suitable stone for an inspiration that will endure.
The dinosaurs left their bones as historical record: the letter cutters hope their inscriptions leave a record of people's history, thoughts and feelings.
