This new text gives a comprehensive overview of the epidemiology, pathology and physiology of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). There is an emphasis on new theories of causation, new diagnostic approaches, recent changes in incidence following risk-factor campaigns, recently developed international protocols and an analysis of current problems in both diagnosis and approach to SIDS.
Rezensionen / Stimmen
A welcome departure from previous attempts to force observations to fit a preconceived pathophysiological or epidemiological hypothesis. The authors set out to review the present state of published work on this complex and confusing subject, with contributions from authors with diverse backgrounds, experience, and perceptions. The book is extremely well referenced and most chapters are written in easily accessible, non-technical language. An excellent book that can be highly commended as a reliable source of up-to-date and comprehensive information on sudden infant death syndrome.
The Lancet, vol. 359 Jan 2002
The editors have masterfully adopted a multidisciplinary approach with authors including clinicians, microbiologists, paediatricians, paediatric pathologists, forensic pathologists and even a chapter by non-medically qualified investigative journalists on SIDS and Infanticide - which is a surprisingly well-written and thoughtful chapter. ..this it he best book I have seen on the topic...

BMJ
This book is a 'must-have' for experienced practitioners involved in SIDS investigations and research. The editors are to be commended for having the courage to take on the task of eloquently assembling such a divergent group of theories and viewpoints.
Pediatric & Development Pathology
...this book makes fascinating reading because of the very wide range of topics covered and the diversity of authors...This is a book that would be of interest not only to researchers and pathologists working in the field, but to parents, social workers and others involved with SIDS. Most especially, it will be of interest to paediatricians and may even help to broaden their horizons.
