This full colour atlas of histology offers a large collection of original photomicrographs of all tissue types. Beginning with the cell (the basic structural and functional unit of a tissue), the text follows with chapters that introduce the different types of tissues: epithelium, connective, nervous and muscular. The remaining chapters take students through each of the major organ systems and explore the tissues found within them. Each chapter begins with a brief overview about the types of tissues illustrated in the chapter and explains how they fit into the understanding of how the body functions. In addition to protomicrographs, colour illustrations of key structures or concepts are presented. Magnifications are given for each micrograph, and in many cases the same tissue is presented at various magnifications.
