This guide to the interpretation of wooden shipwrecks and shipbuilding techniques through the ages is a bible for nautical archaeologist and anyone documenting and interpreting the remains of wrecked or abandoned vessels. The text is divided into three parts: Part I introduces the discipline and presents enough information for the lay reader to understand the analysis of ship and boat construction which follows. Part II is formed of three chapters covering ancient, medieval and post-medieval shipwrecks and supporting documentation, representing a cross-section of shipbuilding technology as seen through the interpretation of a select group of finds. Part II addresses the techniques of recording hull remains, assembling archival information and reconstructing vessels.
