Daniel P. Starr, a native Western New Yorker, was a teenager during the Golden Age of Buffalo Sports. He cherishes vivid memories of skipping school so he could attend the home opener of the Buffalo Bisons in Offermann Stadium. Starr served in the Army in Korea, graduated from Canisius College, and then earned a Master's degree and a Ph.D. from Rutgers University. He joined the faculty of Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, in 1962; a decade later he was named the Director of Athletics. Starr retired from this athletic position in 2000 and taught sports administration courses. He also began researching and writing about sports history. He now lives in Williamsville, New York, with his wife, Joanne. Their four daughters live nearby.
