In remote & difficult terrains with adverse climate & limited working period due to snow fall, the foundations on regular piles are not possible due to non transportation of required inventory / machines/equipments. An efforts has been made to provide foundation using micro-piles as deep foundation in Leh - Laddakh area. The methodology is discussed through a comprehensive filed load testing of micro-piles & sub soil investigation (SSI) at the proposed bridge location. Due to non availability of full fledged Indian code on micro-piles, it may open a new era in the field of bridge construction in hilly & remote areas. Moreover it may also be used in strengthening the foundation and seismic retrofitting of existing bridges.
