This book celebrates today's movie stars in a compilation of contemporary glamour photography that, while paying homage to Hollywood glamour photography of the 1930s and 1940s, creates what author Ricky Spears calls "New Hollywood Glamour". More than 50 of America's leading photographers record the sexy, the funny and the downright gorgeous, including, among more than 100 other personalities, Alec Baldwin, Jodie Foster, Winona Ryder, Bob Hoskins, Sigourney Weaver and Mel Gibson. The photographers, many start themselves, include Robert Mapplethorpe, Mary Ellen Mark, Bert Stern, Sylvia Plachy and George Hurrel. Spear's research through thousands of pictures has resulted in a collection of images that reveals the intimate collection of images that reveals the intimate collaboration between photographer and subject. His text traces the history of glamour photography from the 1920s to the present and discusses the changes that have made celebrity portraiture one of the most exciting chronicles of popular culture today. Filmographies of the celebrities and biographies of every photographer appearing in the book are included.
