Ophthalmic microsurgery has today reached a new point in its development in which biologists, pathologists and pharmacologists, as well as electronics and computers, play a major role. This volume, based on a meeting of the International Ophthalmic Microsurgery Study Group, documents significant recent achievements and considers new objective measurements and biological approaches necessary to control and improve the refined techniques currently in use. The contributors discuss advanced surgical techniques together with a broad spectrum of improvements in technology, microscopes, lasers and measurements. Topics of special interest include the role of biological factors in the long-term results of surgery and the cellular approach to cornea and lens surgery.
