This textbook provides an introduction to the types of spectroscopy commonly used to determine the structure of organic molecules. Strategies for interpreting spectra are emphasized and the reader is encouraged to develop a systematic approach to elucidating molecular structure from the types of spectroscopic data routinely obtained in the laboratory. The first chapter discusses the type of information which spectroscopic methods can provide and the way in which this information can be used to determine organic structures. Infrared spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance are dealt with in detail in subsequent chapters. Much information has been summarized in graphical form or has been tabulated for ease of use.
