Duncan Smith flew and led fighter missions almost continuously from the Battle of Britain through the struggle for Malta, the invasion of Italy and the liberation of France. This is his account of what it was like to be a Spitfire pilot, from ditching in the Channel to dog-fighting over Anzio.
