This is a work offering comprehensive and practical guidance both for organizing and for hosting touring exhibitions, and is as relevant to arts centres, libraries and informal exhibition areas as to museums and galleries. The last 20 years have seen a significant shift in the UK, away from a few large institutions which toured exhibitions as a regular service, towards a large number of galleries with touring exhibitions. The result is a diversity of practice which can be as confusing to potential lenders as it is to venues. The purpose of this book is to establish and disseminate best practice. It draws on the experience of 53 experts working in museums, galleries and related institutions throughout Great Britain. Each expert provides advice on an issue relevant to touring.
