Special education is a challenge and understanding how play can add to the educational practice of students with special needs is of great value. Play, which is widely used in mainstream schools, can be used in special education classes because of the diversified way of teaching. The present study deals with the use of play in special education in the Association of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional - APAE, in the Municipality of Itacoatiara, AM / BRAZIL, in the period 2019/2020, and as secondary objectives to analyze the applicability of play in APAE, then describe APAE's teaching-learning methodology, and also explain the interaction of play in the APAE student's learning process. Based on the following hypotheses: If games and play applied to the teaching of students with intellectual and multiple disabilities facilitate learning, then it is assumed that they need to be in line with the institution's pedagogical political project. If the toys and play materials to be used in the classroom with special students will facilitate learning, it is understood that they need to be part of the educator's planning.
