Navalism and the Emergence of American Sea Power, 1882-93

Between 1882 and 1893 the US Navy evolved from a 12th-ranked sea power to a first-rate imperial fleet due mostly to the efforts of a small group of politicians, writers, and naval officers including Theodore Roosevelt, Alfre Thayer Mahan, Stephen B. Luce, and James R. Soley who managed to change fu
