Mikie Heaton-Ellis was one of the most promising young jockeys of his generation. Then in the 1981 National Hunt Stepplechase at Huntingdon he fell and broke his back. Wheel-chair bound he continued to pursue his passion for horses and now runs Barbury Castle Racing Stables where he has had 100 winners. Early in the morning each day he inspects and instructs the finest in British horses, and yet he will never ride again. This is the story of one of the best loved and most sought after trainers and how he overcame the greatest of hurdles to achieve his ambitions. Private grief, career setbacks and severe physical disability have all taken their toll, and yet his faith in his goal and his own personal beliefs have sustained him. Mikie Heaton-Ellis was formerly the trainer for Sheik Mohammed Fhelk and his horse Tirol won the English 2000 Guineas and the Irish 2000 Guineas in 1990.
