The Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) holds a congress every two years. It purports to discuss problems inherent in the Asia-Pacific region as well as to publish latest achievements in the clinical and basic ophthalmology. The XIII Congress was attended by 1106 delegates from 36 member countries, Europe, North America and other areas. The program included a very wide range of subjects as well as a number of education sessions in the form of updates, morning and luncheon seminars. It is hoped that this publication of the proceedings of the congress, published in two volumes, will serve as rich resources of reference about the latest achievements and problems of eye care in this region and as a milestone in the long history of APAO.
