The rich musical culture is also highlighted, from minstrelsy to modern music genres.
I provide insights into the world of German art and architecture and learn with you more about the important history of Germany, which has shaped the country and its people. The German holidays and festivals are also looked at to give you an understanding of the cultural celebrations.
Now I invite you to immerse yourself in the world of German culture with me. Get ready for a journey full of surprises, discoveries and familiar things. Perhaps at the end of this trip you will look back with a new self-image and a new connection to German culture.
While researching this book, I realized that German culture is a broad and complex field that cannot be captured in a few words. But it is precisely this diversity that makes German culture so unique and exciting.
In this respect, I wrote this book with the awareness that such an attempt is already bound to fail, because the number of cultural facets and the number of historical events and highlights are too large. If I did dare to do so, then it was to awaken my readers' own memories and reflections or to arouse a new, justified interest.

Schreiben ist öffentliches Denken. Immer wird sich jemand finden, der überzeugt ist, diese Sätze besser hätte formen zu können. Aber nun ist es zu spät, nun steht die Reihenfolge und die Auswahl fest und darin liegt der Frevel des Schreibers. Das wirft der Leser ihm, wann immer möglich, vor.
"Stille, endlich. Ich nehme die Fährte auf durch die Zeit und den Raum. Noch kann ich den Punkt nicht sehen, der aber da ist. Das muss so sein. Welchen Grund sonst, hätte ich, mich auf den Weg zu machen, ihn zu finden?
Drei Ausgangspunkte braucht es, um einen Punkt im Raum zu bestimmen, sagt die Physik. Ich zweifle, dass zwei weitere, wie ich, zur selben Zeit nach eben dem gleichen Ort Ausschau halten. Eher vermögen meine Gedanken, was der Physik versagt bleibt und ich bin allein in dem Versuch, diese eine Zeit, diesen einen Ort zu fixieren. Was weiß Physik von meinen Gedanken? Sie kommen in ihr nicht vor. Physik ist das bloße "Es ist" oder "Ist nicht". Im Geist gibt es mehr, viel mehr Variable.
Weiter. Konzentriere dich! Es ist so viel Raum, so viel Zeit.
Im Anfang sei das Wort gewesen, sagt man. Nicht ein Gedanke? Es muss doch ein Gedanke diesem Wort vorausgegangen sein. Wäre das Wort nicht sinnlos ansonsten, in jeder Bedeutung dieses Wortes? Redeten die Götter ohne den sprichwörtlichen Sinn und Verstand, wie wir Menschen so oft? Schufen sie ohne Vordenken Raum und Zeit und alles, was darin ist? Suchen wir Menschen deshalb so oft vergeblich danach?
Falscher Raum, falsche Zeit. Zurück."
