The Library Journal
In this second book in the "All-New Twenty To Make" series, painter and art therapist Scicluna (Pebble Pets) explains the techniques of rock painting, an inexpensive and family-friendly art form. It starts with hunting for rocks in the wild (or purchasing them). Part of the fun is choosing the right rock shape for the design. (A smiling avocado, for instance, requires a somewhat pear-shaped pebble.) The book offers 20 designs that range from cute animals to more abstract imagery, which makes it appealing to a wide age group: lions, penguins, and sheep for kids, and mandalas and fruit designs for adults. All are set out in thorough instructions and visuals with arrows that clearly point out the steps. Most of the projects require only one coat of acrylic paint, which will dry quickly.
VERDICT Will be a hit with crafters and readers looking for family activities.
