Divided into three parts; part one discusses the psychology of the horse and behaviour in general; part two deals with stable vices; and part three with vices under saddle. The author tackles a long list of problems which the horseman is likely to encounter during an association with horses, from stable problems such as weaving, kicking and throwing food about, to uncomfortable and dangerous traits under saddle such as napping, head tossing and rearing. In all cases the immediate remedy is given, the root cause is discussed, and the long-term solution to the problem is explained in detail. The author is at pains to encourage a better understanding of equine behaviour, stressing that fear, inability to comply, or failure to understand what is required are all too often the reasons for the trouble we have with horses.
