This text, which should be suitable for use as a laboratory tutorial in an introductory computing course, provides comprehensive, hands-on coverage of DOS 5.0 and the DOS 5.0 shell. Hard disk directory structure is introduced early on in the text, and two chapters provide an introduction to Windows. The same pedagogy and format are used as in the author's previous DOS text, "Practical DOS", with key points, command summaries, field management, and BATCH programs for the Disk Operating Systems (DOS), and "DOS in Action" sections to illustrate business applications. Each command is introduced, explained and illustrated, and there more than 40 hands-on activities through-out the text. End of chapter material includes a chapter review, DOS commands, true/false self-review and a comprehensive hands-on problem. Also available is an "Instructor's Manual" (ISBN 0-07-056853-6), which includes "Tips for Teachers", answers to problems, transparency masters and testing material.
