Neuropathological Diagnostic Criteria for Brain Banking

According to the proposal of the European Brain Bank Network (EBBN) and its members, a brain bank should be a high quality support service. Consensed neuropathological diagnostic criteria are essential for the collection, preservation and distribution of tissue with the aim to improve investigations in neurological disorders. The standardization of protocols improving neuropathological diagnostic criteria of various diseases by developing new approaches such as new biological markers is a target for action by the EBBN. Responding to this requirement and to the proposed methodology, an EBBN subgroup of participants worked and discussed the diagnostic criteria of several neurological disorders directed towards brain banking, the results of which are presented in this text.
