Tim Rudman's first book on lith printing - a specialised method of photographic developing which produces exquisitely delicate prints that are easily coloured and enhanced - is recognised as the canonical work on the subject. Since it was published (by Argentum) in 1998, the technique has attracted a growing number of photographers. There have also been significant developments in materials and techniques for 'traditional' lith printing as well as the introduction of digital methods which simulate the process. This new book focuses on two main themes. Firstly, it updates the information in the original book on subjects such as papers and chemicals as well as introducing the new digital techniques, and, secondly, it provides a showcase for leading practitioners from all over the world who have been invited to submit samples of their work. Their submissions illustrate the 'Gallery' section and form a substantial part of the book, demonstrating what can be achieved by adopting a number of quite distinct approaches to lith printing, both traditional and digital, as well as explaining how the effects on display have been achieved.
