This book has been developed from the text accompanying MRI courses run by the European Magnetic Resonance Forum. These courses are given to newcomers to the MRI field who may be trainees or experienced radiologists, or radiologic technicians. In the better-equipped communities such as the USA and Japan, MRI is now the first-line diagnostic procedure for neurological/neurosurgical conditions of the central nervous system (brain and spine) and increasingly in musculoskeletal and joint diseases (orthopaedics). This book reviews the basic principles of magnetic resonance, and MR instrumentation, image formation, contrast and contrast agents. The book contains contributions from Richard A. Jones, Timothy E. Southon, Patricia De Francisco, Robert N. Muller and Stefan B. Petersen.
