This object of this book is to teach children with little or no riding experience the fundamentals of good horsemanship. The book's many photographs demonstrate what the author describes. Following an introductory note to parents, Richter speaks to the children themselves about daily care and grooming; preparing for a lesson; the lesson itself (beginning with the gaits and progressing to single jumps and patterns of jumps); preparing for a horse show; and the show itself. In time, children should improve their riding skills and learn self-discipline and how to respect the individuality of each horse or pony they ride.
