Adult Hydrotherapy

A compilation of papers by a number of physiotherapists in Western Australia who have for some years been treating a wide variety of patients in hydrotherapy pools. Each contributor is a specialists in his or her field treating their patients on land as well as in the water which has given them the opportunity to observe their patients in situations where different forces apply and techniques of treatment vary. In water the hydrodynamical principles of buoyancy, metacentre and the rotational effects provide opportunities for specialised techniques. The book provides background details of a number of conditions together with their means of treatment. Sports injuries, neurological and neurosurgical, orthopaedic and rheumatic conditions are covered, as well as ante- and postnatal groups, mother and baby relaxation, and exercise progammes for the over 50s. Additionally, there is a discussion of therapeutic swimming, temperatures and the development of new environment. The editor is an innovator in hydrotherapy and has pioneered the "Halliwick" approach to exercises in water. She has also edited "Hydrotherapy in Paediatrics".
