More Than a Game

Cricket has consistently inspired a wealth of literature. This collection assembles over seven decades worth of cricket writing. The contributions include: Geoffrey Moorhouse's reflection on a century of Test cricket between England and Australia; C.L.R. James's study of George Headley; and J.B. Priestley's thoughts on the Yorkshire and England opener, Herbert Sutcliffe. To disprove the notion that only those who can't play cricket write about it, Mark Nicholas offers a skipper's view of Malcolm Marshall's talents, Australian Test batsman Paul Sheahan reflects on "The Grand Old Game", and Mike Brearley recaptures his feelings on facing the cannonballs of Jeff Thomson. The editor, David Rayvern Allen, was awarded the Cricket Society Literature Award for his authorized biography of John Arlott.
