Biopsies of the cornea, lens, retina and choroid as well as those of intraocular lesions can pose problems for pathologists who are unfamiliar with such specimens and with the particular neoplastic and inflammatory diseases which affect the eye. In addition to unfamiliar tissue samples, the pathologist is also presented with new infections resulting from the increased use of contact lenses, the prevalence of cataracts and the use of antibiotics and corticosteroids after penetrating keratoplasty. It is such infections, together with tumors and inflammations specific to intraocular structures are covered in this book.
After discussion of the normal histology of the globe and its adnexa, there is a presentation of the clinical and histopathologic features associated with ocular lesions and diseases. The emphasis is on practical aspects of interpretation.
