Based on newly-opened archives that shed new light on Arab-Israeli relations in the late 1940s and early 1950s, this study provides a general overview of the Middle Eastern and Arab Israeli scenes as well as analyses of major negotiations between Israel and her neighbouring Arab countries. The author argues that if these negotiations had succeeded, later Middle Eastern wars would probably not have occurred. Indeed Israel bears much of the blame for this. The book is neither an apologia, nor a denunciation, nor a manifesto of any political or ideological view, but a critical assessment of the evidence at hand.
