Privatization of Criminal Justice

Examines the nature and extent of the impact of privatization on the US criminal justice system. Part I reviews the history and general issues behind the growing use of privatization within criminal justice, and suggests parameters defining appropriate and inappropriate forms of privatization. Part II focuses on privatization in various components of the system, such as private policing, substance abuse treatment, and jail privatization. Part III offers case studies, and Part IV discusses problems of evaluation.
