This text approaches diseases of the teeth, jaws, mouth, face, and salivary glands from the perspective of disease manifestations, causes and mechanisms as they exist in tropical countries and in many developing countries. The information given is also of interest to those in developed countries for the comparisons that can be made with non-tropical diseases, and with similar manifestations outside tropical regions. The book also deals with other disease processes common in tropical populations and explains their oral manifestations, and the way they modify primary orofacial diseases. The emphasis throughout is on the interaction between oral and systemic disease, and the book aims to improve diagnosis, and to boost prevention and treatment of oral diseases both in the tropics and in temperate regions.
