In this text, part of the "Integrated Approach Series", students explore how people have lived in Southern Africa; hunter-gathering, herding and farming ways of life; co-operation and conflict over land; the impact of European settlers; and resulting struggles over land and resources. The "Integrated Approach Series" is a three-year course aimed at the Junior Secondary phase. There are four books for each level, each covering one of the following subject areas: history; geography; English/media studies; and biology. The series aims to show the links between different areas of inquiry; improve reading, writing and analytical skills; focus on aquiring skills rather than on memorizing information; explore values and attitudes within the teaching programme; and help students to meet the demands of a changing South Africa.
