This study examines why so many are prepared to betray their country and kin in the interest of enemy countries. Using documented case histories and interviews with traitors, defectors and intelligence officers, the author attempts to analyze the complex motives behind acts of treachery - motives of sex, money, ideology, adventure and power. The effects of treachery, both on the individual and his family and friends, are also examined.
