ECASIA isthe result of informal discussions between members of the European Surface Analysis User Groups SCADEG and UKESCAUG in 1982, which arose from the common feeling that the applied Surface Analysis Community needed an opportunity to meet at an international level. ECASIA '93 was held in Sicily in the autumn of 1993 and spanned a range of topics, from adhesion, catalysis and corrosion to semiconductors, sensors and superconductors. A record number of delegates attended from as far afield as China, Japan and the USA.
