This text discusses Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP), a genetically linked precancerous lesion of the bowel in which numerous small growths form on the inside of the gut wall, which can develop into tumours. The condition is inherited and can therefore be diagnosed and treated at an early stage. In addition, the data from patients with FAP may reveal useful information about the genetic component of other cancers.
