When John Paul Getty, the richest man in the world, died in 1976, his last will and testament made no reference to his real fortune or his personal heirs. In fact, there were to be 14 of them who, along with the museum he established in Malibu, had unconditionally inherited one of the greatest fortunes known to man. The story of this fortune illustrates the strange dilemma which can strike the very rich in modern life, when along with the money there is another legacy: bitterness, jealousy, meanness and emotional mayhem. This work examines the impact of that legacy and its attendant pressures, intrigues and destructive greed on the Getty family.
