Transition metal bis(alkylidyne) complexes are known to mediate C-C coupling reactions via the intramolecular conversion of two alkylidyne fragments into an alkyne ligand. Therefore, the syntheses and characterization of the respective heavier homologues of bis(alkylidyne) complexes were examined in order to investigate the putative coupling reactions of two tetrylidyne ligands into a ditetrelyne.
Additionally, prompted by the fact that examples of structurally characterized compounds containing a triple bond between a group 10 and 14 element are not known in the literature, the development of a synthetic pathway towards these target molecules was investigated. Therefore, a facile method for the isolation of the first group 10 tetrylidyne complexes is presented here.
