"I am leaving behind a number of cardboard boxes. The oldest contain my mother's letters and diaries from the time when she was a girl and engaged to Henri Regnault, right up to her last days, a whole life. I believe, no, I am sure that there is treasure here for the future. I cannot read these papers without feeling heartbroken.
